Wireless Access

A wireless access point (WAP) is a networking device that allow wireless devices to connect to a wired or wireless network. It works by transmitting and receiving radio signals over a wireless local area network (WLAN), which acts as an intermediary between the WLAN and a fixed wired network.

WAPs are made up of several hardware components, including a CPU, radio transceivers, antennas, and software. They are considered Layer 2 devices, and therefore work on both Layers 1 and 2 of the OSI Model.
